Care built around your child

Care built around the whole child

Some injuries can be evaluated in a pediatric office, while others need urgent care, imaging, sedation, specialist treatment, or an emergency department. Calling first helps the team understand what happened, when it happened, the child’s symptoms, and the safest setting.

Sapphire evaluates many routine urgent concerns and may repair selected small lacerations in the office. The team will direct families elsewhere when an injury may need imaging, sedation, specialist treatment, or resources that are not available in the practice.

How this care can help

Start with the concern. We will help organize what comes next.

Describe the injury

Share timing, bleeding, pain, swelling, movement, contamination, and home care.

Call before coming

The team may recommend the office, urgent care, specialist care, or an emergency department.

Small lacerations

Selected small cuts may be repaired in the office when the clinical details are appropriate.

Know emergency signs

Serious injury, uncontrolled bleeding, or loss of consciousness needs a higher level of care.

A clear next step

A clear plan for what comes next

Seek emergency care for uncontrolled bleeding, severe or visibly deformed injury, loss of consciousness, worsening confusion, serious head or neck injury, difficulty breathing, a deep or widely open wound, or loss of circulation or sensation. Call 911 when immediate help is needed.

Helpful before your visit

Questions families often ask.

Schedule on MyChart, or call our office if you’re unsure which appointment best fits your child’s needs.

Can every cut be repaired in the office?

No. Location, depth, contamination, timing, bleeding, child cooperation, and need for specialist care all affect the decision.

Should I clean a cut before calling?

For a minor wound, gentle rinsing and clean pressure for bleeding may be appropriate. Do not delay emergency care for a serious injury.

Will my child need a tetanus-containing vaccine?

The clinician will review the wound and immunization record and make an individualized recommendation.
